Case study / Event photography
One conference. Many perspectives.
Photography for Visit Hagerstown at the Main Street Maryland Conference, with a focus on the people, spaces, and perspectives that help meeting planners picture an event here.

The assignment
Show Hagerstown as a place to meet.
Visit Hagerstown commissioned a photo collection for its meeting and destination marketing. Betsy DeVore, Director of Marketing & Digital Communications, coordinated the assignment around the Main Street Maryland Conference.
The challenge
Plan for the light. Look for the angle.
The assignment called for useful views within a live conference schedule. I expected a low-light auditorium and planned my equipment around it, while looking for perspectives that connected the people, program, and setting.
The approach
A shot list, with room to explore.
I worked from a shot list, checking the schedule and coverage priorities ahead of the event. During coverage, I kept looking beyond the obvious viewpoint—including the side boxes of the auditorium—to show the room from a different angle.
Selected photographs
The program. The people. The place.

A closer look
The moments around the program.
A live painter, a shaft of sunlight, a view through the staircase railings. Alongside the scheduled moments, I look for the details that give an event its own character.

Delivery & purpose
A new collection for Visit Hagerstown.
The finished photographs were delivered through an online gallery on October 7, 2026. The collection was commissioned to support Visit Hagerstown’s meeting and destination marketing, adding imagery of an active conference setting.
